POWERING AFRICA SUMMIT 2022 - Capital Flows Underpinning the Energy Transition

For the 8th edition of the Summit we returned to Washington D.C., re-uniting the key players from North America with Ministerial and Governmental participants from across Africa to drive energy developments on the continent.

Returning to Washington D.C. 16 - 18 March 2022.

The summit’s overarching theme was Capital Flows Underpinning the Energy Transition where we looked to gain an understanding of how climate finance will flow and the vast opportunity that this presents. The OECD estimates that $79.6 Billion of Climate Finance was mobilized in 2019, and as discussed at COP26, the international community must now deliver on a promise to mobilise $100 Billion annually to support growing economies. The Powering Africa Summit addressed key questions such as: How will capital flows impact an energy transition? Is the existing development architecture in place to successfully mobilise this amount of finance? How will climate financing impact energy developments on the continent?

The Summit began in 2015 to support U.S. Government stakeholders, institutional investors, private financiers, service and technology providers from North America to come together with Ministerial and Governmental participants from countries across Africa.

This year instead of the usual panel sessions, the agenda streams focused on interactive boardrooms where stakeholders came together in a collaborative environment and left with productive outcomes through enhanced networking. The Summit also saw the return of our popular technology showcase, which offered the opportunity to meet with best in class US Energy Technology providers.

The Powering Africa Summit was co-located with EnergyNet’s Latin America Energy Forum allowing Africa and Latin America to share valuable knowledge and experience in developing their respective energy sectors and the challenges of decarbonisation.
