Introduction to the Powering Africa Summit
The Powering Africa Summit was hosted as an online event from 24 June - 1 July 2021.
Since the Summit began in 2015, the event has attracted Ministerial and Governmental participation from African countries such as Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.
Each year, these leaders join U.S. stakeholders Power Africa, U.S. Exim Bank, U.S International Development Finance Corporation, M.C.C, The World Bank, IFC, USTDA, institutional investors, private capital investors, and private technology and service providers to accelerate investment into Africa’s energy sector.
With a new President in the White House, the 7th Edition of the Powering Africa Summit provided an exciting platform for U.S. intergovernmental agencies to promote policies and development focus in the African energy sector under President Biden’s Administration.
Building on previous summits and the current situation, PAS21 was built around digital Boardroom Discussions focusing on the latest developments in African energy, including renewables, off-grid, natural gas and utilities, with an emphasis on financing.
These sessions tackled Climate Finance, Financing the Energy Transition, Financing the Off-Grid Sector, Cross-Technology Energy Generation, Finance Beyond Generation and Energy & Health, as well as country spotlights on South Africa, Morocco, Ghana and more.
